Enfield’s Philip Awiti-Alcaraz’s debut on the world Judo stage ended in disappointment as he suffered defeat against Martin Pacek at the World Championships in Rio.
The 20-year-old went into the competition in good form, having won the European Junior Cup event in Berlin earlier this year.
Awiti-Alcaraz, who was also victorious at a European Cup event in Bosnia as a junior, was handed a bye in the first round of the World Championships.
It meant he went straight up against Pacek but the 20-year-old Londoner was thrown for ippon in the third minute in the third minute of their bout which ended his hopes at the global gathering.
