Erik Lamela Tottenham-Hotspur bound after Roma deal agreed
5:33pm Wednesday 28th August 2013 in Sport
Tottenham have agreed the €30m signing of Roma attacker Erik Lamela, with a further €5m due in bonus payments, Roma have announced.
Lamela, 21, scored 15 times in 30 Serie ‘A’ starts for Roma last term and could become the club’s record signing - replacing £26m striker Roberto Soldado.
Capable of playing down the left-hand side of midfield or as a central striker, the former River Plate forward joined Roma in 2011 and spent two seasons as the Stadio Olimpico, scoring 19 times in 62 league outings for the Giallorosso.
The 6ft forward is a full Argentinean international with three full caps and has also represented his country's Under-20 side.
Completion of the deal had hinged on Roma signing former Manchester United winger Adem Ljajic from Fiorentina, but that deal has now been completed too, meaning Gareth Bale’s switch to Real Madrid can go ahead.
