Tottenham Hotspur’s young midfielder Tom Carroll scored his first goal for England Under-21s last night as Roy Hodgson’s side thrashed Scotland 6-0.
Carroll, 21, replaced Swansea City midfielder Jonjo Shelvey after 58 minutes to win his second Under-21 cap.
Just three minutes after coming on, Carroll marked the the occasion by side-footing home from fellow scorer Nathan Redmond's low centre to wrap-up the scoring.
This was England Under-21’s first game since their disastrous exit from the Under-21 European Championships earlier in the summer and Hogdson - standing in as the FA selected Stuart Pearce’s replacement - had picked a youthful squad which included ten previously uncapped players.
