Enfield Ignatians come from behind to beat Old Streetonians

Enfield Ignatians came from behind to beat Old Streetonians 20-10 in London Two North East on Saturday.

The away victory at Hackney Marshes was Enfield’s seventh win of the campaign and was accomplished in stunning fashion to mete out revenge for their loss to the same opponents last October.

Having been 7-0 down at half-time and three points further behind after 55 minutes despite dominating the game, Ignatians dug deep and followed up Jordan Wilson’s penalty strike with three tries in quick succession through Richard Laurence, Sam Emery and Fausto Perdoni.

A Wilson conversion bolstered the score and coach Emile Hertz was rewarded for his decision to bring on impact substitutes Wes Warren and Shaun Quinn in a bid to turn the game around at 10-0.

Blue and Golds boss Emile Hertz said: "We got ourselves in some good positions in the first half but didn’t capitalise on our dominance because we were playing too far behind the gain line.

"However, we made a few changes in the second half and were far more forceful and direct, and once we got our tails up we simply got better and better."

Next up for Enfield is a league match versus Holt at Donkey Lane on Saturday.

The Ignatians’ third XV romped to a 39-0 Herts Middlesex Merit Table Three mauling over Cuffley, with Steve Emery, Hugh Halford, Mickey Piper and Andy Smith getting over the whitewash. Hadee Fayaz grabbed a hat-trick of tries in an eye-catching display.

Enfield’s fourth team couldn’t make it a trio of wins for the Ignatians as they were condemned to a tight 17-12 reverse against UCS Old Boys Thirds in Herts Midddlesex Merit Table Four.

Chris Byrne and Ray Hayes scored a try apiece and Dan Jones added a penalty.
