Talented young squash player Yan Manning defeated youngsters from across the country to be crowned Under-13 Middlesex Plate Open champion.

The 11-year-old, from Southgate, came out on top in the annual junior squash tournament despite being younger than the majority of the 31 players in his age group.

Manning, who is a member at Southgate Squash Club, has been playing the sport since the age of seven but has improved over the last two years and now represents Middlesex at county level.

The youngster follows in the footsteps of his parents and grandparents who have also played for Southgate Squash Club.
