Police on the beat in Enfield will soon be getting a great new piece of kit, the body-worn camera.
The Mayor of London’s recent announcement of 20,000 cameras for the Metropolitan Police will herald one of the biggest changes in policing in recent history. Trials in Britain have shown that these cameras help reduce cost, save time, cut complaints and improve accountability. This technology helps to remove any ‘grey area’. Trouble-makers will no longer be able to make false accusations about the police. It also means the police have more time on the beat. Instead of an officer writing a lengthy description of an incident, they can submit the footage as evidence that speaks for itself. It not only saves the officer’s time, it saves the courts time as cases are more cut and dry.
Cameras would help protect the very people who are working to make our lives better.
