The Labour Party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) shortlist of only three women is disgraceful when 12 people were interviewed.
It is known that Labour policy is to promote women, but has equality gone backwards when none of the male candidates were shortlisted (I assume there were male candidates among the 12), or did these three women perform so well in interview that they totally outshone all the others.
It will be said that such a list is due to MP Andy Love’s sudden decision to retire – I don’t think so, Andy’s short notice is no excuse. I would like to see the nine rejected candidates and Edmonton Membership vociferously dispute the NEC’s decision. I have written my objections to the NEC via Edmonton PLC’s secretary.
I have voted Labour all my life and been a Labour member for a number of years and whilst I could not refuse to vote, I am afraid I will have to look to cast my vote with another party come the election.
