I note that local Tory MPs wish for opening hours at the urgent care centre at Chase Farm Hospital to be extended.

I doubt it is a coincidence that these calls are being made so close to next year’s general election, given health service provision in Enfield will be a major issue for voters.

I have no confidence in the Conservatives to follow-through on local healthcare pledges, as it was the current, Tory-led Government which broke its promise and downgraded Chase Farm by closing its A&E department and maternity unit.

Chase Farm’s urgent care centre is not fit for purpose. It does not offer the same hours as the centre at North Middlesex University Hospital and is only able to cope with minor injuries. What is required is not just an extension of its opening times, but an upgrading of the entire service.

Unfortunately, Nick de Bois MP and David Burrowes MP do not understand what is needed in Enfield and do not seem to represent the views of many residents on how best to improve the situation at Chase Farm.
