Enfield Borough Council, please treat me as an adult.

I have just received a questionnaire asking me if I feel safe crossing the road? My answer is yes, I do at the moment, unless you have plans to change this.

The area concerned is Lakes Estate N13/14 and the council wishes to convert it into a quieter neighbourhood. Could this project have any connection with the plan to turn Green Lanes into a cycle path? Yes, of course it is, even though there is no mention of this in the questionnaire.

I am sure that the quieter neighbourhood scheme and the Green Lanes scheme are not unrelated.

Please, Enfield Council tell me the truth. Tell me that your plan for Green Lanes will force traffic to find alternative routes, ie through Lakes Estate, and you wish to control and eliminate rat runs. That would be the honest thing to do.

Instead, I get a questionnaire designed with a font and cartoon on the cover that would suit a primary school pupil. Asking me questions that seem only to give me the impression that I am being consulted without telling me the whole story.

Tell us your plans for the area, including the Green Lanes proposal. Tell me the implications. Give me some proposals. I may then feel I have the whole picture and could respond appropriately.

I have no problem with the council improving my local environment but is this the noisiest part of the borough? I don’t think so.
