In the spring of 2011, Enfield Borough Council proposed to erect a memorial to commemorate Enfield’s servicemen and women who died for their country in all Britain’s conflicts following the Second World War.
The council also considered it fitting that the memorial would be ready in time to mark the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War, coinciding with Remembrance Sunday this year.
Sadly, three-and-a-half years passed and Remembrance Day has come and gone with no sign of the memorial, or seemingly, any publicity forthcoming from the council as to any progress towards implementation.
The understanding now is that the memorial will be ready for 2015, which is said to be better late than never, although the object of the council’s original commitment to a timing with the First World War anniversary has now been lost.
