I am a landlord in Enfield and live away from the borough.

Recently, I became aware of Enfield Borough Council’s Landlord Licensing Scheme, which is going to kick into effect as from April 1, 2015.

I am flabbergasted that Enfield Council is having the private landlord pay this fee. I have lived in my property in Enfield Lock and witnessed for years council housing tenants destroy the property and I have had to get the police involved before now.

I was subject to racial abuse from the neighbours and to this day I am still tackling other residents who are dealing drugs in the area. My tenants have been complaining about these council tenants to the point that I have lost good, paying, law-abiding tenants. Yet in this scheme, the borough threatens us in taking over our property – laughable.

I cannot believe that Enfield Council will have the right to take away our property – this seems so unreasonable and no other borough is having to do this.

I am fully aware that over-crowding is a problem but to put all the private tenants under one umbrella seems a bit too far and extreme.

In a detailed judgement on Friday, October 3, lasting one-and-a-half hours, Mr Justice Ouseley found that the council’s decision in relation to the licensing of single family private rented dwellings was taken lawfully, based on the information provided to the council’s cabinet. However, he ruled that the local authority had not applied its mind to the legal requirements for licensing of other private rented sector property and the decision by Enfield Council was arguably unlawful.

This has gone to case and Enfield Council is wasting money fighting this – money spent on lawyers could have been spent more effectively.

There is a team called Campaign Against Landlord Licensing so please help support us against this scheme and we, the Enfield residents, especially the landlords, will be eternally grateful.
