I was very sorry to hear from Paul Mandel’s letter (‘Residents’ voices were heard’, Opinion, October 1) that at a meeting of the Fox Lane Residents’ Association I created the impression that I am anti-car. That is certainly not the case. My position has more in common with the old saying about fire and water: they are good servants but bad masters. Why else do I own and use a car? We just have to address the bad masters element: congestion, killer air quality, journeys better made on foot, by bike or public transport, unreasonable speed, equal priority between drivers, cyclists and walkers, and quality of life in residential areas.
