Although there is a short-term objection to Minchenden being used for special needs rather than as a temporary primary school, the Grovelands Residents’ Association’s main concern is longer term.
If another primary is to be built in the area, we see Minchenden as a far better option than the proposed Grovelands. What is plan B if English Heritage oppose Grovelands? The major expansion in demand for primary places in south-west Enfield is further south, along the North Circular corridor. So why place most new provision around Southgate Circus? Primary schools should be within walking distance and where the need is greatest; just being somewhere in south-west Enfield is not good enough. The council should come clean to all parents in south-west Enfield on how they intend to meet their needs.
Finally, what happens to the special needs school in two years when the lease runs out?
