On the front page of this newspaper (‘Fundamental weakening’, Enfield Independent, July 23) there was a very important account of the changes to the way council decisions are scrutinised, which I hope, amendments by the council would be in order.

What, surely, is alarming and dishonest is the quote by Councillor Terry Neville who said: “They are paying three of their members, including Bambos Charalambos (who will stand against David Burrowes MP in Enfield Southgate at the General Election) an extra £10,000-plus to campaign for votes in the run up to next May’s General Election.” Cllr Doug Taylor, leader of the council, in his introduction to the booklet, ‘Your Guide to Local Services and Council Tax 2014/15’, writes: “Every penny we collect is vital to deliver excellent services.”

However, this money has been given to something which is not what council tax is for. To put it mildly this is not right.

A mind-boggling phrase from the Word of God says: “All unrighteousness is sin.” We neglect God’s Word at our eternal peril.
