I read with interest your reader’s letter praising Napier ward for the care her mother received recently (‘Hospital staff deserve a medal for the work they do’, Opinion, July 2) at Chase Farm Hospital.

I only wish I could say the same, but our experience of Napier ward was quite the opposite.

In September 2009, my mother was admitted to Napier ward. She spent four weeks there and during this time suffered poor basic nursing care.

Myself and family spent long hours there and we found nursing staff to be rude and unapproachable. Their attitude was appalling and there were several episodes of neglect that still distress me today.

A diabetic, my mother was left to fall into a hypoglycaemic coma and consequently died.

We never got back any of my mother’s personal belongings.

I will never forget staff on Napier ward but for very different reasons to the previous letter writer.
