Councillor Chris Bond, the cabinet member for environment at Enfield’s Labour Council, is incorrect on so many issues (‘Fly-tipping has reduced’, Opinion, June 11).

He claims the QEII stadium was brought back into use by Labour. Wrong. In my capacity as cabinet member for leisure and culture under the Conservatives (2008-10), I signed the relevant documents and was involved in the discussions that sought the money to rebuild the stadium, provide a new home for Enfield Town Football Club and there is photo evidence of me sitting on a JCB as we began creating a new running track for athletes and local schools.

All of the major projects in leisure were brought forward by a Conservative council: expanding our library service, improving the Millfield Theatre, developing the QEII stadium, restructuring our leisure centres, relocating our museum to a more central site and opening the Dugdale Centre. As for recycling, we began rolling out the wheelie bin service, we offered a free collection service for large household goods (you have to pay under Labour), and is Labour going to open a new recycling centre in addition to Barrowell Green? If that is the case, Cllr Bond, where will that be and when?
