Tenants have our support

I am delighted to see New Labour has a vision for Bowes ward, even though it is way off the mark.

Producing so-called community space, such as parks along the A406 in the empty plots, is an odd idea. I for one wouldn’t want to sit next to a dual carriageway, with juggernauts whizzing past while I eat my picnic.

New Labour should have fought much harder to keep the large playing field close to Cherry Blossom Close as community space.

New Labour seems proud to be part of the team that sold the homes and plots to Notting Hill Housing Trust. But Notting Hill are behaving like bully-boy developers with plans to build as many flats as possible on the empty plots and rehouse hundreds of long-term residents, moving them out of the area. It has also been suggested some tenants will be made homeless.

As ever, it is up to the community to fight back and defend their space, their homes and their right to have a say about how the area will develop.

The Green Party is right behind the newly formed tenants group — A406 Tenants United.

We will help them to defend their right to stay together as a tight-knit community, encourage the development of ‘green lungs’ along A406 and push for solar panels, cavity-wall and loft insulation for all new and refurbished homes helping to reduce both CO2 emissions and fuel bills.
