Pavements are a joke

Over this last decade I have been at odds with this apathetic council, regarding the appalling neglect of the footpaths in Chase Side, Enfield.

The leader and two of his colleagues, examined the area years ago, and I was assured it would be dealt with.

We are still waiting. It is a death trap — no more so than the area from the junction of Laurel Bank Road leading to the junction of Lancaster Road and Lavender Hill.

The footpath leans at a 45-degree angle, an impossibility for those with walking sticks and wheelchair users run the risk of their chairs tipping over.

On this assault course people have to negotiate trees leaning at an alarming angle. Also, the council has laid asphalt over previous paving slabs, which protrude through the surface and present a hazard even to the sure footed.

The commercial premises have well-maintained forecourts, but these are often used by their own customers. I have been a constant thorn in the side of the leader of Enfield Council. His last response was to say maybe the area would be addressed in 2010/11.

Hopefully, once the corruption of our Parliamentary leaders has been sorted out, the focus will fall upon the grass roots; namely, the councils, whose grotesque salaries we the residents are paying.

Is this what they call a cushy number?
