The owner of a Tottenham icon said an “emotional” goodbye to his nightclub which closed because of the redevelopment of the Spurs stadium.

Rudolph's Club shut its doors for the last time on Sunday after almost 40 years and will be turned into a car park for the new Tottenham Hotspur football stadium.

Tony Walker, 62, said the closure was the end of an era but it had been a great 38 years working there.

He said: “It was a lovely day – shame about the football result though.

“Lots of people were here to party and I said goodbye to a lot of good memories.

“I got lots of a cards and letters from people and I even had some old spurs players come in on the day to say goodbye.”

The 62-year-old now plans to go into retirement but was sorry that 25 members of staff will lose their jobs because the club closed.

He added: “It’s sad for the staff and the supporters because they will have nowhere to go.

“It’s emotional because I have watched 38 football seasons from her and this was the last ever.”
