A SCHOOL in Kenton will be holding a week of activities centred around Mitzvah Day this month.

Michael Sobell Sinai School, in Shakespeare Drive, will start with a Mufti-Day event on Friday, November 18 for Children in Need.

The school will continue to do activities over the next week after Mitzvah Day on Sunday, November 20.

Mitzvah Day is a good deeds day, which calls on thousands of volunteers to donate time rather than money to charity and community projects.

Assistant headteacher Nicky Goldmeier said: “We thought it would be a good idea to do a whole week of events for the children to participate in.

“On the Wednesday we are going to St Luke’s Hospice for the second year running to plant a herb garden after we planted flowers there last year.

“We will be working together with Glebe Primary School on this project.

“We regularly work with the school on projects so it will be good to work together on this.

“On the same day in the afternoon six children from Year 4 will be going to Barnet Hospital to give out picture frames created by the whole year.

“The picture frames have different themes according to what the children are interested in, like X Factor or football.

"They will be given to children there so they can take them home as presents.

“There are a number of other events we will be doing through the week but we thought having the Mufti-Day would be a good way to kickstart the activities.”

Journalists at the Times Series newspapers are still looking for a worthy cause to help as part of this year’s Mitzvah Day.

Perhaps a community centre needs redecorating, or a green space needs clearing up?
