Funeral of Tottenham's Mark Duggan, shot dead by police, today
THE FUNERAL of Mark Duggan, who was shot dead by police in Tottenham Hale last month, will take place today.
Father-of-four Mark Duggan, 29, was killed by a police marksman as he got out of a taxi close to Tottenham Hale station in Ferry Lane, on August 4.
A peaceful prayer vigil for Mr Duggan outside Tottenham Police Station in High Road two days later ended in a violent riot through the street, causing shops to be looted and buildings to be set on fire – leaving 54 families homeless.
Three days of looting and rioting followed in towns and cities across England, including in neighbouring boroughs Enfield and Hackney.
His funeral will be held at the New Testament Church of God, in Arcadian Gardens, Wood Green.
The funeral cortege will leave Mr Duggan's parents house at 10am, travelling through Broadwater Farm Estate to the church for a service at 11am.
He will be buried at Wood Green Cemetery, in Wolves Lane, before a reception at Broadwater Farm Community Centre this afternoon.
In a statement, Haringey Police said: “We have met with Mr Duggan's parents. In line with the family’s wishes, the policing will reflect the family’s desire for a local, peaceful and dignified funeral.”
The Independent Police Complaints Commission – which is investigating the death – is still appealing for witnesses. Anyone with information should call 0800 096 9079 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
