An Edmonton man is preparing to travel the entire London Underground network in aid of the London Bombings Relief Charitable Fund.

Barry Salter, of Bulwer Road, will join teams from across the UK and USA in a journey around the world's oldest subway system later this month.

The event, which has a fund-raising target of more than £20,000, has been organised by Geoff Marshall and Neil Blake, who hold the Guinness world record for travelling the entire Tube system, which includes 275 stations, in 18 hours and 34 minutes.

Barry, 27, is among three Enfieldians taking part in the challenge.

Other participants include Chris Presswell, 18, of Newbury Avenue, Enfield Lock, and Andrew Toynbee, 18, of Green Dragon Lane,Winchmore Hill.

Barry said: "It's an act of defiance against terrorism. We were all horrified by what happened and feel this is something we can do to really help the victims and also show the world we are still happy to travel round the Tube just for the fun of it.

"This is not a record-breaking attempt. We want to show the world we and others are not afraid."

Supporters from the USA include Police Captain Tami Brisset, who is travelling from New Orleans to take up the challenge.

The ambitious project has the full backing of Transport for London. The London Bombings Charitable Relief Fund, which has received more than £8 million in donations, was set up by Mayor of London Ken Livingstone and the British Red Cross to assist victims of the July 7 attacks along with their families and dependents.
