Thief walks into a trap
A DOZY burglar was caught red-handed after walking straight into a police trap.
Neil Newling, 36, of Capel Road, Enfield, was caught on CCTV in January breaking into a bungalow in Hatfield, Hertfordshire, which had been set up by police as bait to catch criminals.
He entered the premises, which were deliberately set up to appear as if someone was living there, through an open window and stole a lap top computer, a DVD and a games console.
Mr Newling, who pleaded guilty at St Albans Crown Court last week, was arrested at his home in Enfield several days later after police identified him from the CCTV images.
When he was shown the footage he also admitted to his part in seven more burglaries.
Defending him, Imran Khan said that Newling wanted to change his way of life and confront his problem with drugs.
Judge Stephen Warner sentenced Newling to a two-year community order, and also made him subject to drugs rehabilitation requirements, meaning he must have regular tests to make sure he is drugs free.
