Health on the menu for Enfield's school councils
12:10pm Wednesday 10th October 2012 in News By Hermione Wright
Pupils will learn how to lead a healthy lifestyle during a workshop on Friday.
Sixty children from school councils will meet at the Millfield Theatre in Silver Street in Edmonton to hear how they can achieve and maintain a healthy life.
The session, which runs between 9.30am and 2pm, is organised by the Enfield Children’s Trust and aims to discover how children think schools can improve the health of its pupils.
The pupils, aged between six and 11, will take part in a healthy eating quiz as well as ask questions about how they can become healthier.
Cllr Ayfer Orhan, Enfield Council’s cabinet member for children and young people, said, “We know that children are often the best people to ask about the big issues. Their views are very important so we have invited a team of health experts to hear what the children have to say.
“At lunchtime we shall be showcasing some of the new additions to our school menus and asking the children to make their judgments.
" I am looking forward to learning from our young people – their ideas really do help us to shape our plans.”
The event falls one weeks after more than 100 children took part in a safety workshop organised by the Enfield Safeguarding Children Board at the Dugdale Centre in London Road, Enfield Town.
