A burger van owner says he will take Enfield Borough Council to court if it does not offer him to place to operate his business.

Fevzi Vedat, who runs catering company Mr Magic UK in Pymmes Park in Edmonton, claims the council has not been transparent when informing him about a tender process coming into force in the park.

The 44-year-old, who lives in Ordnance Road in Enfield Lock, said he only became aware of the tender process two days before the application closed and the council did not keep him informed about his position.

However, the council said the process was "advertised appropriately" through local newspapers.

The father-of-two is desperate for the council either to move him to another park or for the tender process to start again, which he believes was unfair.

Mr Vedat, who works in the park every weekend during the winter, said: “I will go to the courts. If I have to take them to the courts, I will take them to the courts to protect my family.”

He has been told to leave the park by September 30. However, he claims the council did not give him three months notice to leave so he said he will “definitely” continue to run his business until at least the end of October.

He has complained to the council about his treatment, but if the issue is not resolved he said he will contact the Local Government Ombudsman – which investigates council complaints, before taking the matter to court.

A statement from the council said: "We invited tenders for catering services in five of our parks in February this year and Mr Vedat submitted a bid for the Pymmes Park Concession only.

"Unfortunately he was unsuccessful in his bid and we wrote to Mr Vedat in June informing him that his bid was unsuccessful and he would have to stop trading in the park by 30 September.

"While we understand Mr Vedat is disappointed with the outcome of the tender process, we have an obligation to Council Tax Payers to recoup as much money from our parks concessions as we can while simultaneously providing a first rate service to park users.

“We would like to thank Mr Vedat for the service he has provided Enfield Council in the past and wish him well in the future."
