Children taught to be street-wise in conference
11:53am Thursday 27th September 2012 in News By Hermione Wright
A conference to ensure young people “feel confident” in the borough will go ahead next Friday.
The informal meeting will teach more than 100 children how to keep safe and how to report problems including dark streets, suspicious strangers, gangs or drugs.
Children will be encouraged to have their say through drama presentations and a speed dating style session where children can ask experts for their advice.
The conference, created by Enfield Safeguarding Children Board, is aimed at children over ten and will include ice breaker games and an electronic quiz.
Councillor Ayfer Orhan, cabinet member for children and young people, said: “Safeguarding children is about creating a caring community where everybody feels safe, but also has an awareness of possible danger.
“We don’t want any children to feel unsafe, threatened or frightened so this conference will help us to understand what more we can do to help all our young people feel confident in this borough.”
The event is part of Enfield’s Keep Safe Week and will be attended by children from a selection of the borough's schools.
