Lorry fire blocks motorway
10:51am Tuesday 18th September 2012 in News By Emma Phippen
A lorry fire on the M25 last night “could have ended in tragedy” according to the fire brigade.
More than 25 fire fighters were required to tackle the blaze between Junctions 24, Potters Bar, and 25, Enfield, at 8.30pm.
The lorry, which was carrying paper goods, did not crash before the fire and it is believed to have been caused by an electrical fault.
Watch manager Paul Fraser, who was at the scene, said: “The lorry was carrying lots of paper, so the fire spread quickly throughout the lorry.
“There was a lot of smoke, and crews worked hard to put the fire out swiftly.
“It’s fortunate that the driver became aware of the fire when he did, or this could have ended in tragedy.”
No one was injured but the fire was not brought under control until 9.45pm.
