A charity cricket match led by an Enfield MP raised £700 for charity.

MP for Enfield-Southgate David Burrowes played with a team of Enfield cricketers against Cockfosters Cricket Club on Friday.

The cash, which was raised through an auction and a raffle, raised money for the Enfield-based Nightingale Cancer Support Centre.

The MP said: “It was a great way to finish the summer. Although my team got soundly beaten it was an enjoyable match with young and old from different Enfield clubs taking part.

“The real winner was Nightingale Cancer Support Centre with much needed funds and awareness raised.”

The charity, which relies on donations, is dedicated to helping people in Enfield who have been affected by cancer.

It needs to raise £330,000 each year to continue with the services it provides.

Lesa Barker, fundraising manager, said: "It was wonderful, the weather was good and the turnout was great. It was nice to see people there to support them."
