Barrowell Green Household Waste and Recycling Centre to close for £225k refurbishment
A major recycling centre in Winchmore Hill will be closed throughout October while it undergoes a “crucial” refurbishment.
Enfield Council will spend £225,000 on modernising the Barrowell Green Household Waste and Recycling Centre in a bid to improve the services it offers to residents.
The council will replace damaged concrete flooring, provide better quality containers for green waste and install gantries at the site in Barrowell Green.
New road markings will be painted, and work will be carried out to improve the flow of traffic to reduce waiting times during busy periods.
Enfield Council's cabinet member for environment, Councillor Chris Bond, said: "Barrowell Green is a popular and well used facility but like any busy site it needs regular maintenance to keep it in tip top condition.
"These works are absolutely crucial in ensuring this site provides a high quality service to our residents and continues to play a vital role in helping us to manage our waste for years to come.”
Cllr Bond said the council will work as quickly as possible to minimise disruption to people living nearby.
According to Cllr Bond, the council deliberately chose October to carry out the work as the site is relatively quiet and the weather is likely to be dry enough for building work to continue.
However, he asked users to be patient if the maintenance programme takes longer than expected due to poor weather.
While the work is being carried out, the council is offering a discount for customers using their Bulky Waste service. The cost will be £25 per pick up, rather than the current £25 for the first collection, £50 for the second and £75 for the third.
Residents can also take their items to a site in a neighbouring borough in Summers Lance Recycling Centre in Barnet, Hornsey Recycling Centre in Horney, Park View Recycling Centre in Tottenham and Kings Road Recycling Centre in Chingford.
