'Party atmosphere' fills Edmonton shopping centre
A “party atmosphere” filled an Edmonton shopping centre on Sunday during an Olympic-style closing ceremony.
Hundreds of people joined the fun at Edmonton Green Shopping Centre, in The Market Square, which kicked off at 6pm.
Face painters, street entertainers, singers and dance groups dazzled the crowds.
Roger Allen, centre manager, said: “The performers were all absolutely fantastic and you could tell it really meant a lot to the people of the local community.
“The kids really enjoyed having their medals presented to them on stage and we had a brilliant turn-out for the whole two weeks.
“It was great to see everyone come together to really enjoy the party atmosphere on Sunday, the mood and music was magic.”
More than 50 children were handed medals for taking part in Olympic-style competitions during the two-week Edmonton Green Games.
The shopping centre's games, which ran in parallel with the Olympics, included activities such as crazy gold, craft workshops, a climbing wall and a rodeo bull.
