An Edmonton man has been charged after police seized £4.1million of counterfeit coins in raids on Wednesday.

Mark Abbott, 43, of Cedars Park Drive, will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court later today charged with money laundering and counterfeiting after the haul – believed to be the biggest ever recovered in the UK – was discovered.

The money was found during raids on homes and vehicles in Enfield, Hertfordshire and Essex yesterday.

Blank coins valued at £4million were discovered in a 40ft freight container, while another £107,000 was found in other locations.

Kevin Fisher, 52, of Goffs Oak, and Daniel Sullivan, 27, of Hornchurch, will also appear in court.
