OIL paintings of famous British poets will be on show as part of an exhibition launched this week by Enfield Council.
Artist Peter Edwards has depicted ten contemporary British poets, and the exhibition at Enfield Civic Centre includes an unseen work of the Poet Laureate, Carol Ann Duffy.
The Mayor of Enfield, Councillor Jayne Buckland, who arranged the exhbition, said: “This is the climax of a busy year and we are delighted to be presenting these wonderful paintings in our chamber.
“Peter Edwards is an established artist whose work can be seen at the National Portrait Gallery.
“It is entirely fitting that poets are the theme of the exhibition since this year the council has supported the arts and put poetry on the map, providing opportunities for poets to read their poetry before the start of each council meeting.
“It has been a way of showcasing some of the thriving talent in this borough and builds on the creativity of our residents.”
The paintings can be viewed between 2 – 4pm on Saturdays until July 31. Call 0208 379 4199 for more information.
