CHILDREN will transform a vandalised shelter this Saturday as part of a community bid to revamp a park.

The pupils, from George Spicer School and Bush Hill Park Primary, along with Edmonton community arts group ArtStart, will create a mural on the neglected shelter, which has been in Bush Hill Park, Lincoln Road, for over 20 years.

The renovation is part of a project to spruce up the entire park, which includes relaying the playground, and plans to attract more wildlife, which was initiated by the Friends of Bush Hill Park, which formed about two years ago.

The group has sought a variety of grants to renovate different parts of the park, with money from the Mayor of London and Enfield Council to create route for cyclists and skateboarders.

A wheelchair-friendly path was laid in the wildlife area in March, while bird and bat boxes have already been installed. The friends’ hope to start planting wild flowers and shrubs in the next few weeks.

And diggers this week began digging up the tarmac in the play area, ready for new equipment, which has also been purchased with a community grant.

The visitors centre, which is used by sports and community groups, has also been given a new lick of paint.

Chris Duggan, from the Friends of Bush Hill Park said: “We are incredibly proud of what we have managed to do in Bush Hill Park so far with the wildlife garden, continued work with our visitors centre, and now the shelter.

“We hope our work can allow the full potential of this pretty little park to be fully realised, and look forward to lots of people coming down on the day to join us to make the day really special."
