Palmers Green residents without power for two hours yesterday

ENGINEERS restored power to 990 customers in Palmers Green yesterday afternoon, after power was cut to thousands of Enfield residents at lunchtime.

Power went down at 2pm yesterday to several thousand people, according to EDF energy, in postcodes N15, N22, N21, N13, EN1, EN4, N18, N14, N3, N4, N8, N18, N10 and N1 and was restored in stages.

EDF energy said the majority of customers were back on within an hour, with power restored to the remaining residents in Palmers Green at 4.25pm yesterday.

Fire crews were called to Wood Green Library in High Road, Wood Green, just after 2pm yesterday.

Workers in the building suspected nearby construction and wiring work may have caused the problem.

The firefighters found no danger in the building.

Electricity provider EDF Energy said there was a fault at the Palmers Wood sub-station.

A statement from the company said: “We are committed to providing a reliable supply of electricity and, in a bid to reduce the number of power interruptions caused by contractors damaging underground cables, actively encourage any firm undertaking work to contact us in advance for advice and free cable locating maps, to help them avoid our cables.

This is vital for their own safety as well as for the security of electricity supplies.”
