Mother and son trek for charity


A WOMAN and her son strode to victory for a local hospice, and raised £1,000 with a little help from the bank.

Enfield resident Janine Rowe, 35, a customer service officer for the Royal Bank of Scotland, raised £500 for Noah's Ark Children's Hospice from walking up Britain's third highest peak, Snowdon, with her 10-year-old son, Jack Lambert.

Her employer then offered to match her fundraising total under its cashback charity scheme.

Ms Rowe said: "I decided as this was a physical challenge that I might need some inspiration to get me to the top. I then found Noah's Ark. We completed the climb, for me a gruelling four hours’ to the top, which was for my son a nice long walk out in the country.

"Noah's Ark Children’s Hospice do tremendous work offering life-limited children and families care, support and playtime."

A number events are being held to raise money for the hospice over the coming months.

A “Posh Nosh Carvery Quiz”, at Crews Hill Golf Course, organised by Edmonton Rotary Club, takes place on October 25 Then, on November 8, there will be another quiz night, at Arkley Village Hall, Barnet.

The Finchley & Friern Barnet Operatic Society's production of the Witches of Eastwick, which runs from November 4-8, will also be raising much-needed cash and the Noah's Ark Christmas Fair - at Barnet Chipping Library November 29, will also be getting in on the act.

Finally part of the fundraising will be Chickenshed Theatre’s performance of Twelve Days of Christmas, on Saturday, December 13.
