Chase Farm: Tories blast decision

10:57am Friday 5th September 2008

POLITICAL opponents have blasted the decision by Government to press ahead with controversial cuts to services at Chase Farm hospital.

Nick de Bois is poised to contest the Enfield North constituency in which Chase Farm Hospital is located, at the next General Election.

He called the announcement on Thursday morning “devastating.”

“The Labour Government has signed off at the stroke of a pen these cuts, so the Government must take full responsibility for what could happen. It lies totally and utterly with them.

“It’s not even clear what we will get because all we know is that we are losing (full time) accident and emergency.”

Mr de Bois highlighted comments made by health minister Alan Johnson in a letter to Enfield council in which he explained his decision to green-light the service cuts.

“The Secretary of State says that the consultation process was flawed but is accepting the recommendations. It’s outrageous.”
