The most beautiful girls are on our own doorsteps

BEAUTY queens in Enfield caught the eye of judges recently by scooping two of the five Miss Greater London titles on offer as they bid to become Miss Earth UK.

And another Enfield woman also got in on the act after being declared ‘Britain’s missing top model’.

Brenda Patterson, 26, of Kirkland Drive, Enfield, and Sonia Dham, 22, from Winchmore Hill, go onto the next stage of the competition, which will end in finding Miss Earth UK.

This beauty pageant, unlike others, is focused on green issues such as how people should preserve and protect the environment.

Miss Earth UK is hosted by Carousel Productions, the company which also hosts the Miss World and Miss Universe pageants.

Both Brenda and Sonia have now qualified for the semi-finals of the competition.

When explaining why she entered the competition, Brenda said: “I feel that it is my responsibility to make a change and make the people around me more conscious of the environment around them.”

Her first stages of making a difference to the environment include meeting and talking to the people of Enfield. She claims after having discussed environmental issues with them that they were ‘happy to vote for me’.

She added: “I have many ideas that can be practised here and now to save our environment and they are not over reaching goals either. We cannot wait for the future - we have to do something now.”

Sonia Dham previously told the Independent that her goal was “to preserve the natural beauty in the world”, and is what inspired her to take part in the competition.

And Miss Earth UK is not the only competition that Enfield has been taking by storm.

Kelly Knox, 23, recently won BBC Three’s series “Britain’s missing top model”.

The series followed eight disabled finalists who competed in order to win a four-page spread in Marie Claire magazine, and an opportunity to have a casting with top model agency Take 2.

Kelly, who was born with no left forearm, recently completed her photo shoot with top portrait photographer Rankin.

When describing her experience, she said: “It has been so exciting, like breathing different air, and realising there is a whole different world out there. I am so glad that I did the programme.”
