The Mayor of London has committed to working closely with Ghana to build important trade links between London and the Ghanaian Capital.

On Tuesday Sadiq Khan met with the President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo, the Ghanaian Minister of Trade, Alan John Kyerematen and the Mayor of Accra, Mohammed Adjei Sowah at City Hall.

Mr Khan committee to working more closely with Ghana to build trade links and exchange expertise on urban planning and city management between London and Accra, the capital of Ghana.

Commenting on the meeting, Mr Khan said: “I was very pleased to be able to welcome President Akufo-Addo and Mayor Sowah to City Hall. We enjoyed some productive discussions that I hope will lead to strengthened links between our communities in the future.”

He said London was an ideal location for high-growth Ghanaian businesses looking to access international markets.

Mr Khan said: “London has always been a cosmopolitan and forward-looking city of great opportunities. We welcome people of different nationalities, faiths and backgrounds, including more than 61,000 Londoners of Ghanaian origin, and we remain open to people, talent and partnerships.”

The President of Ghana and the Mayor of Accra are in London to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, which takes place in London this week.

London has a large and active Ghanaian-origin community of around 61,000 people.
