A TEACHER inspired his pupils to embrace a campaign for the victims of the Grenfell tower - while fundraising for the sole surviving brother of a pupil he once taught.

Daniel Lyndon, a humanities teacher at Park View Community School, in West Green Road, Tottenham, its staff and pupils arrived dressed in green on Thursday.

The event was held a day before the nationwide event 'Green for Grenfell' and the pupils raised £770 on the day.

Mr Lyndon taught history at Henry Compton School, Fulham, from 2000 to 2008 where one of the victims, Hamid Miah, had been his pupil.

He has set up a JustGivingdonation page that has so far amassed £3200 for Hamid’s surviving brother Hakim.

Mr Lyndon said: “I was co-ordinating the #greenforgrenfell day last week, as a former student of mine was killed in the fire alongside his siblings and parents.

“I was a history teacher working at Henry Compton School in Fulham from 2000-2008 and one of my students, Hamid Miah, who was in my form, was killed in the fire alongside his brother Hanif -who also went to Henry Compton - his sister and both his parents.

“It seems that the children chose to stay with their elderly parents instead of leaving the tower block.

“There was an older brother, Hakim, whom I taught GCSE History to, that lived close to the tower and is now the only surviving member of the family.

“I felt compelled to act to support Hakim.”

Mr Lyndon said the pupils at Park View were encouraged to wear green or buy a green ribbon that he had made.

He, said: “I spoke in assemblies to tell the students about Hamid and all tutor groups were sent information about him including an interview from the BBC.

“The response was incredible with £770 being raised.

“I am trying to get in contact with Hakim to offer my support and solidarity and pass over the money to him, but am just awaiting contact details.”
