A MAN has been arrested after a woman was sexually assaulted on a  train.

The 23-year-old got on the Greater Anglia service at Enfield Lock shortly before 8am on Monday, January 30.

She was touched inappropriately on her back and bottom by a man and was clearly in distress.

But another passenger saw what happened and blocked the attacker from assaulting her any further. He left the train at Stratford with her and she reported the incident to the police. 

A 33-year-old man from Enfield was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault.

He was released on police bail and will return on Wednesday 8 March pending further enquiries.

Police are appealing for this man to come forward as he may have information which may help with the investigation.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Suleman Yazdani, said: “This was a prolonged assaulted on board a very busy train which has understandably upset the victim.

“No one should ever be subjected to unwanted sexual advances – we’re pleased she had the confidence to report it.

“I am very keen to speak with the man who intervened during this assault by standing in-between the victim and her attacker.”
