A woman has thanked her friends and family after her first ever charity event “smashed” its fundraising target.

Anna Desimone set herself a target of raising £500 for North London Hospice with an afternoon tea and cake sale on Saturday, June 18, but ended up making £1,560.

Ms Desimone, from Southbury Road, Enfield, put on the event for the hospice after they cared for her dad Carmine in his final months before his death from cancer in 2013.

She said: “It went well, I set a realistic target and we smashed it, I’m really pleased.

“We had way too many cakes donated, more than we could use. I would definitely do something like this again, make a few changes but nothing major.

“It was an all-rounder, we kept children and adults entertained. I hope we did dad proud, that was what drove us.”

Ms Desimone said it costs the hospice up to £900 a day to care for a single patient, and hoped the money would be used to make the lives of patients a bit more comfortable.
