A MAGICAL sensory room where anxious children can relax has been officially opened.
Oaktree School, in Chase Side, Southgate, opened the room as part of its 50th anniversary after being given a £25,000 grant from Lord Taverners and BT.
It was opened by Lord Tarverners chief executive Tim Berg, Dr Prabhjot Kaur Basra of BT, headteacher Richard Yarwood and school business manager, Brenda Kershaw.
Mr Yarwood said: “Some of our children find processing information difficult, particularly sensory information, which can be confusing for them and cause stress and anxiety.
“Hopefully we will now have much happier children and less anxious pupils.
“Our school wants to start its next 50 years really meeting the needs of our current students, and this technology allows us to do that better.”
The room includes stimulating lights, sounds and textures to help calm the children down and allow those with disabilities to engage.
