The new head of community policing in Enfield has praised the hard work of officers in the borough.

Cllr Krystle Fonyonga, cabinet member for public health and community safety, met with police constables this week, and pledged to work with residents to “stand up for the area” against crime and anti-social behaviour, as well as getting more money from the government for the cause.

She said: “I want to build on our successes in keeping residents safe by ensuring the council and the Metropolitan Police work increasingly closely together.

“In partnership we will work to make our streets safer, cut burglary rates, tackle gang related crime and expand our already excellent work in tackling domestic abuse and hate crime and make residents feel safer than ever before.”

The council recently launched a clampdown on prostitution in Edmonton, and Cllr Fonyonga said it would be the first of many similar campaigns.

Enfield Police Borough Commander Carl Robinson said: “We very much look forward to working with Cllr Fonyonga, and reinforcing the good relationship we have with the council”.
