A man who stabbed a teenager to death in an argument over party snacks will serve at least 24 years in jail.

Jemal Williams, 20, was sentenced to life imprisonment today (April 26) at the Central Criminal Court for the murder of 17-year-old Shaquan Sammy-Plummer.

Mr Sammy-Plummer was murdered on January 30, 2015 in Winchmore Hill by Williams, who was found guilty by the jury yesterday.

Navnit Dosanjh, Crown Prosecution Service lawyer, said this case showed how when knives are involved, even trivial arguments can have deadly consequences.

She said: “Shaquan Plummer had spent the evening of having fun with two of his friends and was planning to go to a small house party with them.

“They laughed and joked as they made their way to the party, with no idea that by the end of the night Shaquan would lose his life.

“This was a challenging case because although there were many people around at the time of the stabbing, they were very reluctant to give evidence, understandable given the level of unprovoked violence they had witnessed.

”However, one witness did agree to give evidence and this was critical in convicting Jemal Williams.

“I would like to thank this witness, and the other witnesses in this case, for their bravery in giving evidence in court.

“I hope the verdict gives some small comfort to Shaquan’s family. Our thoughts are with them at this time.”

Williams, of Berkeley Gardens, Winchmore Hill, stabbed Mr Sammy-Plummer, of Islington, after the teenager arrived at a party at Williams' home, to which he had been invited.

Williams refused to let him and his two friends in and demanded he hand over a bag containing drinks and snacks they had brought.

When Mr Sammy-Plummer refused and began to walk away, Williams ran after him and stabbed him once in the heart. Mr Sammy-Plummer died in hospital of his injuries.
