Two of Enfield Council’s cabinet members are set to step down from their frontbench roles next month.

In a reshuffle set to be confirmed at the full council meeting on May 11, Cllrs Andrew Stafford and Nneka Keazor will leave their roles, representing finance and efficiency, and public health respectively and community safety respectively.

Dino Lemonides will replace Cllr Stafford, while Krystle Fonyonga will take over from Cllr Keazor.

Deputy council leader Achilleas Georgiou said: “This is part of an annual reshuffle where it is usual for councillors to take on new roles.

“It has all been done in a very upfront, democratic way, and with the consent of the rest of the group – it is the view of Enfield Labour that these are the right changes.”

He said all councillors had been made aware of the changes well in advance and were happy to co-operate with them.

Cllrs Lemonides and Fonyonga will officially take up their positions after a council meeting which will also see the announcement of a new ceremonial mayor for 2016/17, replacing Cllr Patricia Ekechi.

Cllr Stafford, who has served as cabinet member for finance since 2014, has been one of the most controversial cabinet members in the past year, facing calls to quit after swearing at a Conservative councillor in a meeting last November.

Cllr Keazor declined to comment, while Cllr Stafford has been contacted.
