A SAMBA band is hoping to get people “dancing along” to the sound of their Brazilian drums for a charity talent show.

The Martin Primary School Samba Band, of High Road in East Finchley, will perform at the North London’s Got Talent contest, presented by North London Hospice, on Saturday February 6 at 7pm.

Natalie Grant, music teacher at Martin Primary school, has enjoyed teaching samba to her “musically talented” year six class.

She said: “The band is made up of just under 20 pupils from my year six music class, so everyone has got a big part to play in the performance.

“I taught them samba as part of their music lessons last year but after the classes finished, the pupils wanted to continue playing with the instruments the school had provided for them.

“Samba drums are very easy to learn, unlike some musical instruments like a piano, as it so fun that you see results very soon.”

Ms Grant admits that her class is the “best year group” that have learned this style of music.

She said: “I would love to carry on with them but unfortunately they will be leaving year six this year to go on to their next school.

“We will try to do as much as we can with it through. They are really excited to perform this week and it may lead to other things such as carnivals and festivals in the area over the summer.

“Our act is a showstopper. It hits you in the face, as it is so funky and people will want to move and dance along. It will be so fun.”

Tickets for North London’s Got Talent cost £15
