North Middlesex University Hospital has assured those who had appointments cancelled ahead of the junior doctors strike will be rearranged.

The strike, which was called off last night, has caused disruption to services across the country.

After five days of talks between the Government and doctors union the British Medical Association (BMA), conciliation service Acas confirmed that a deal had been reached which will see all strike action planned for December suspended.

Junior doctors were due to walk out of all but emergency care between 8am and 8pm on 1 December – the first of three planned days of action over the Government’s new contract offer, including two full walkouts later this month.

The hospital in Sterling Way, Edmonton, has approximately 190 junior doctors with many expected to form a picket line before the eleventh hour call off.

However, the hospital believe all appointments will be rescheduled “as quickly as possible.”

A spokesman said: "We are pleased that our A&E department is working normally today. We are in the process of rescheduling any cancelled appointments as quickly as possible."
