A special school has helped to design shirts to be worn by Bear Grylls at his inaugural survival race this weekend.

Archie O’Donnell, 11, and Lewis, seven, both of Aylands School, in Keswick, have both come up with winning designs for the endurance obstacle course which takes place at Trent Park this weekend.

The school ran a competition to see which pupil could create the best design with the best T-shirts.

Archie said he “could not believe” he had won with his design of leaves and waterfall with Mr Grylls emerging in the centre of the shirt.

He said: “I thought it was a cool design with him emerging from the leaves like he will on the course. I was so excited when the teachers chose my design, I could not believe I won, I never thought they would.”

The 5km and 10km obstacle races will be accompanied by a Bear Grylls Adventure Festival at the park, with live music, activities and more than 100 exhibitions from the adventure world.

There will be race viewing areas in various places, where spectators can cheer on the participants and get a taste of the adventure on the track.

The race weekend culminates on Sunday, October 4 in the signature event the 'Ultimate Survivor Race’ – a 30km course, which includes even more extreme Bear Grylls’ survival challenges.

Lewis added: “My design of a bear is what I focussed on, it only took two hours to design. I am very happy with it.”

The pair will be presented with their own T-shirts at the course tomorrow by Bear Grylls and Deputy Mayor for Enfield Bernie Lappage.
