Some libraries are set to temporarily close as self-service is installed.

Four libraries will close between August and September as Enfield council installs the new system to help return library books.

Edmonton Green Library will close between Monday, August 17 and Friday. August 21, reopening as normal from Saturday, August 22.

Oakwood Library closes from Monday, August 24 to Wednesday, August 26, reopening as normal from Thursday August 27.

Winchmore Hill Library will close from Wednesday, September 2 to Friday, September 4, reopening as normal from Saturday, September 5.

Finally, Southgate Circus Library will close from Monday, September 7 to Wednesday, September 9.

Councillor Ayfer Orhan, Enfield council’s cabinet member for education, children’s services and libraries, said: “Self-service works well in the libraries where it is already installed. Not only does it speed up the time it takes to check out items and prevent queues, but it also frees up time for staff to help users find books, deal with IT enquiries, advise on services and check stock.

“The library closures have been carefully planned to cause the minimum disruption to services and staff will be on hand when the libraries reopen to explain how to operate the new technology.”

“We have taken care to plan these works only closing on days as necessary and using days when the libraries are not open to the public. We have also ensured that closures take place on days that do not have any special activity planned.”
