Water is set to return to thousands of homes in the “next few hours” following a burst water pipe.

Homes in Enfield have been left with little or no water for more than 24 hours following the pipe damage in Enfield Road, yesterday morning.

Thames Water reconnected water back to homes at 8am this morning after putting temporary covers across the pipe.

There will be permanent repairs made at a later date, according to Thames Water, with more than 250 homes still being affected this morning.

Chris Featherstone, head of control at Thames Water, said: “We’re very sorry to customers who have had no water or low water pressure. We realise it has been a frustrating time and we’d like to thank them for their patience.

“It will take a few hours for water to make its way back through our network of pipes, and customers in flats or living in higher areas may find they have low pressure for a little while longer. Please bear with us - we’ll carry on supplying bottled water for as long as we need to.”

The road remains open to traffic although two-way traffic lights have been installed to allow the water workers to safely work on the pipe.

Over the next few weeks, additional work will be needed to permanently fix the pipe and some customers may experience short periods without water or with low water pressures, but supplies will return to normal today.
